Mission Statement

To partner with customers, providing personalized logistics solutions in a reliable and professional manner.

Southern Companies, established in Florida in 1965 and headquartered in Medley, is a family owned and operated, asset-based company that handles all of the services required for each phase of the import and export process, from concept to completion. Southern Companies can clear, move, and warehouse a variety of goods, eliminating the need for client involvement in the process. Ownership and oversight of all terminals enables us to duplicate results-proven procedures, processes, and controls throughout the entire operation.

Throughout the years, Southern Companies has expanded and grown organically, boasting an unwavering reputation for maintaining the highest standards of excellence while meeting the demands of a growing international market. The opening of additional offices in Jacksonville, Tampa, Savannah, Charleston, Knoxville, and Houston speaks to our commitment to provide services to new and established clients – many of whom have been with us for over 20 years and can attest to Southern Companies’s commitment to excellence.

The Southern team, with members who have dedicated a decade or two to this family business, operates with integrity, respect, and professionalism. We value our customers and take pride in our ability to creatively provide solutions that meet the needs of a varied client-base. Professional representatives are always available for any customer inquiry: new projects, questions, or concerns.

MANAGEMENT

Nivardo Mora

Owner and President

Nivardo was born in Cuba but spent some time in the United States while attending high school at a New Jersey boarding school. Once Cuba’s government was overthrown, and his family had lost everything they had built, the possibility of a future in Cuba was rendered null.  Nivardo, just 19, accompanied by his young wife, emigrated and made the United States his home. For eight years he took what work he could find, spending time in California working for the airlines. There he studied accounting at Santa Monica Community College. When he returned to the East Coast, Nivardo found employment with Southern Warehouse & Cartage.  It was here that through dedication and perseverance, he moved through the ranks – from warehouse employee to management in little time.  When the opportunity arose, he purchased the company, growing the business along the way. Nivardo and his wife have been married over 50 years and have two sons and four grandchildren.

Jorge Mora

Owner and CEO

Jorge was born in Los Angeles, California but was raised in South Florida, which he considers home. After graduating from Florida State University in 1990 with a degree in Business Administration, Jorge dedicated six years to sales in the South Florida region before joining his father in 1996 in an effort to develop the business further.  Like his father, he learned the business from the bottom up, applying his experience in sales to this new endeavor. He attributes his background in business and sales as fundamental to Southern’s growth, which today includes an increased fleet, greater variety of services, and an expansion into new markets. Jorge and his wife have been married since 1997 and have two daughters.
