What Is Drayage?
Drayage is the short-haul trucking of a container between a port or rail ramp and a nearby warehouse, distribution center, or yard. Southern runs drayage out of seven Southeast ports: Miami, Port Everglades, Tampa, Port Manatee, Jacksonville, Savannah, and Charleston.
What Container Types Do You Haul?
20′, 40′, and 45′ containers, including open tops and flat racks, plus reefer and hazmat. What a move needs depends on the equipment, dimensions, route, and permits.
Do You Run Overweight Containers?
Yes, overweight 20′ and 40′ containers, with the triaxle equipment and permits required. An overweight accessorial applies, so include the container weight when you ask for a quote.
Do You Pick Up at Rail Ramps?
We pick up and deliver at the rail ramps we support.
Are You a Bonded Carrier? Do You Handle Customs Clearance?
Southern is a bonded carrier. Your customs broker handles entry and clearance.
Who Provides the Hazmat Paperwork and Placards?
The shipper supplies the hazmat information, documents, and placards. Southern coordinates the transportation.
How Do I Track My Container?
We track our trucks with Samsara and work from our dispatch systems and each shipping line’s and terminal’s portal.
Who Drives, and What Chassis Do You Use?
Owner-operators handle the driving. Our chassis come from a mix of owned, leased, and managed pool equipment.
What Do You Need to Quote a Move?
The terminal, delivery location, container type, weight, dates, and any special requirements.
